The COMPASS Jobs Fair, Birmingham returned in March with a full exhibition.

The event was attended by over 1,000 social workers from across the UK including social workers, team managers, NQSWs, Independent Social Workers, senior practitioners and social work academics.

We would like to thank all exhibitors, including this year’s sponsor, Birmingham Children’s Trust, for making the event such a successful day.

Commenting on the event, an exhibitor said: ‘Well-organised, friendly and motivational. A real cross-section of attendees from NQSW to experienced care professionals. Loved the possibilities for networking’.

Throughout the day exhibitors provided visitors with opportunities to learn more about their latest employment, training and career development opportunities in social work and social care.

Another exhibitor said: ‘This event has been our most successful in terms of contacts gained. We have spoken to lots of decision makers and it has been our busiest yet.’

Visitors were also able to attend over 50 workshops, seminars, films and webinars exploring current trends and topics in social work, as well as global developments in social work.

Event Sponsor, Birmingham Children’s Trust hosted a variety of seminars including the keynote session from Jenny Turnross: ‘Focus on children, practice and the impact of children’s social care’. Other sessions included ‘Assessment skills: The importance of meaning-making’, ‘What is an apprenticeship?’,  ‘An interview with an ASYE’, ‘Connections Count: Showcasing the application of a practice model’ and ‘The child’s voice: Communicating with children with complex needs’.

Commenting on the seminars, a social worker said: ‘The seminars attended were really useful and informative. Everything was great.’

Discussing the success of the day, a team manager said:  ‘It was an excellent day meeting people, provided lots of information I can share with my team. Attending workshops and networking as always was great to meet others from different areas and share insights.’

Another student added: ‘There are a lot of exhibitors ready to present a variety of options which suit students like myself. Great having all the seminars and exhibitors in one place.’
