Contract type:
Permanent
Location:
London
Salary:
£53,145 - £60.693 per annum
Application Deadline:06 Nov 2023
About Us:
Addressing mental health and social issues among Kensington and Chelsea’s most vulnerable residents
In Kensington and Chelsea, we put local people and local businesses at the heart of decision-making, working in partnership with them to provide quality services that are responsive, effective, and efficient. This includes organising pathways into treatment and accommodation for people who have complex mental health needs, often combined with substance misuse and antisocial behaviours.
The Role:
You’ll work as part of our multidisciplinary Housing Needs team, tackling homelessness and rough sleeping on the city’s streets, as well as working with clients who live in squalor and have issues with self-neglect or managing a tenancy. This is challenging but rewarding and well-resourced work which, when successful, can result in people reintegrating with the wider community.
Heading up a team of qualified social workers, adult mental health specialists and housing support officers, you will implement our rough sleeping strategy and other interventions. You will also lead by example, managing your own caseload of clients with complex mental health or care and support needs. We work flexibly and intensively to encourage and facilitate the client’s engagement with appropriate services. This means forming close partnerships with a number of agencies including the police, health services, the voluntary sector and local residents. Flexibility and tenacity are important: clients often have no regular routine or fixed location and may need to be visited during the night.
Please refer to the Job Description for more information
About You:
A qualified social worker and Approved Mental Health Professional (AMHP) you’ll have experience of managing and running a fast-paced frontline service. A background in housing is not essential but you should be used to working with people with severe and enduring mental health problems. You will have well-developed practice skills with clients with complex needs and will understand issues around safeguarding adults. Experience of managing and developing staff and students, ideally in a rapid response service, is important. Excellent communication and influencing skills will contribute to your success.
In return, you can look forward to a package that includes a competitive salary, a high-quality pension scheme and generous annual leave plus bank holidays.
