Clinical and specialist educational psychologist

I graduated in psychology back in the mid 1980’s and worked as a primary school teacher, before training as an educational psychologist and working in that capacity with local authorities for seven years.

In 2000 I moved in to the NHS and retrained as a clinical psychologist, working with children and teenagers with learning disabilities, autism and mental health problems.

I joined the Together Trust in 2015 after visiting the charity and witnessing their person-centred practice. I was enormously impressed and actively sought a position working for the Trust.

I now work closely alongside the multidisciplinary staff teams at Inscape House School for pupils with autism, Bridge College providing post-16 education for young people with complex needs and supported tenancies for adults with learning disabilities.

I provide psychological consultation, assessment, programme planning, direct interventions and staff training.

I also work with the management teams to develop policies and systems, including positive behavioural support.

The Trust has an unwavering commitment to the improving the lives of the children, young people and adults.

This is an organisation that fosters a respectful, positive, and optimistic attitude and where the staff consistently place the unique needs of the individuals at the heart of the matter.

The people whom we support have experienced considerable barriers in their lives, the work is often complex and resilience is needed.

The Trust has a strong commitment to staff support and there is an everyday friendliness within the organisation that makes coming to work enjoyable.

I have a wide variety of work and benefit from working closely with expert colleagues within education, social care and clinical services including speech and language therapists, occupational therapists and behaviour analysts.

I am able to follow my work through and see the outcomes for our service users.

The Together Trust is rightly ambitious for the people they support and invest in their staff as the most important resource in ensuring great outcomes.

The Trust offers lots of opportunities for progression to help staff develop their experience and skills.

This is a highly professional organisation where there is also a warmth and approachability amongst the staff - from the chief executive through to the employees who work most directly with the service users.
