Manchester City Council is investing over £11.4 million into Adult Services, and as part of this are creating additional permanent Social Worker roles in a variety of service areas, with the creation of permanent Social Worker roles in a variety of service areas. This investment will:

  • Improve the lives of our most vulnerable residents
  • Ensure people in Manchester requiring Adults Social care can be as independent, well and happy as possible
  • Ensure you have a manageable caseload so that you can spend the time you need to with residents and have a good work/life balance
  • Ensure you are well supported with your professional practice and development 
  • Enable you to progress and develop to reach your potential
  • Enable you to have the opportunity to learn new skills and develop new specialisms eg. train as Best Interest Assessors, Advanced Mental health practitioners or Practice Educators, or build on your existing interest in supporting people with autism, who are experiencing domestic abuse, have a learning disability or an acquired brain injury 
  • Enable you to work flexibly across different teams and specialisms to support your professional development
  • Enable managers and aspiring managers to continue to grow and develop practice and leadership skills for the future.

Adults Social Workers required in the following areas: 

Integrated Neighbourhood Teams   - newly established community teams bringing together social care, community health, mental health and primary care. You will have the chance to get involved in:

  • Generic neighbourhood-focused social work
  • Carrying out Best Interest Assessments (we’ll support you to qualify if you’re not already)
  • Mobilising our new place-based home care model
  • Undertaking reviews and reassessments to ensure we are fulfilling our Care Act requirements
  • Providing expertise to your team in supporting people experiencing domestic abuse, who have an acquired brain injury or a physical disability

Learning Disability Service   - supporting people with learning disabilities and other conditions to be as independent and engaged as they are able to be, doing what matters to them and what enables them to improve their outcomes. We particularly welcome applications from people with particular knowledge or expertise of different conditions or disabilities however if you’re passionate about making a difference, we’ll support you to develop these. 

Multi Agency Safeguarding Hub (MASH) Team   - the Adult MASH undertakes the initial assessment of new safeguarding concerns, where some one is concerned about the safety or well-being of an adult, or thinks they might be at risk of harm. We work closely with other agencies, sharing information and working together to act in a timely, co-ordinated and consistent way, ensuring that all adults at risk are kept safe. 

Citywide Care Homes Team   - the City Wide care homes team provides assessment, review and care management for citizens in care homes. People who are placed in care homes usually have high or complex needs due to frailty, disability, mental health or substance misuse. The team also provides support for carers and supports the psychological and care needs of care home residents. 

Hospital Teams   - our hospital social workers play a critical role in ensuring that when someone has a stay in hospital they can return home and to independence as quickly as possible, with the right support around them, or where this is not possible, they move to new accommodation with support that provides them with the best possible solution to their identified needs.

Interviews will take place weekly from the start of April. You will be given the opportunity to express your preference for which vacancies you are most interested in when you attend your interview. 

You will be employed by Manchester City Council and will work as part of the Manchester Local Care Organisation - the city’s pioneering new health and care organisation - working in integrated teams across NHS community health and mental health, primary care and social care to improve the lives of Manchester people. All MLCO staff are employed by one of our partner organisations and deployed into MLCO.
