Social workers are in great demand. You can choose to work anywhere, so why would you choose Wakefield?

Wakefield offers the chance to live and work in a dynamic city filled with culture and leisure opportunities, with great housing at affordable prices and good transport links – you can reach London, Newcastle and Birmingham in around 2 hours by train, Manchester in about an hour, or hop on the M1, A1M of M62 in minutes.

Plus, with us you’ll have the chance to grow and develop your career alongside our own improvement, as we drive a service which keeps our children and young people healthy, happy and safe, while making sure our staff feel the same.

We are in the middle of a rapid transformation of our Children and Young People’s Directorate and have made a clear commitment to significant investment into the service for the foreseeable future. We are one of just a handful of local authorities rated inadequate not to have an Alternative Delivery Model imposed and we've been working hard to make the changes that will create a strong and sustainable social work service, filled with confident, competent, and resilient practitioners empowered to make a difference.

A move to Wakefield might be the smartest choice you make if you want your role to include all of the challenges and rewards that rapid improvement brings. In return for you bringing your passion, expertise and drive, we offer:

- Manageable caseloads – an average of 20 cases or 15 for NQSWs
- A minimum of 28 days’ holiday, plus 8 bank holidays
- Small, connected teams no bigger than 8
- £537 - £1,180 essential car user payment (service area dependent)
- 4% pension contribution
- £1,250 12-month market supplement paid in localities teams
- 90 hours CPD per year
- A Learning Academy that will support you to succeed and grow - with faculties that represent all service areas and expertise within social work
- Regular, reflective supervision to support your practice and professional development. We don't ever want you to feel alone
- Creative Learning and Development, including professional development and opportunities to support your wellbeing and resilience
