The first group of 13 newly qualified social workers have taken their place within Coventry City Council’s newly established ‘Social Work Academy’. The academy will assist NQSWs in continuing their professional development. They will be embarking on a programme combining quality and consistency, with practical shadowing of social work teams supporting children, young people and their families.

Each NQSW within the programme will receive a full programme of support, learning and challenge with the prospect of making them the best quality social worker possible for the children in Coventry.

Cllr Pat Seaman, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “I’m delighted to welcome the first group of NQSWs into our Social Work Academy.

“We want the very best social workers in Coventry so that our most vulnerable children can thrive and get the best opportunities in life.

“We believe that surrounding our social workers with high levels of support will help them feel valued and be confident in their roles as they make that difficult transition from student to professional practice.”

Coventry City Council have worked close with COMPASS to successfully recruit to their current social work teams and to the Social Work Academy. They will be interviewing for Social Workers and ASYE posts once more at the next COMPASS Jobs Fair’s in London on the 5th November 2018 and Birmingham on the 4th March 2019.
