Providing social & emotional behaviour support for schools & professionals

As part of COMPASS's continued support of the social work and social care sector, we are happy to counteract the negative news stories in the sector with good ones highlighting innovative or positive practice. One such story is that of the Mulberry Bush Organisation's MBOX Teaching School:

The Mulberry Bush Oxfordshire (MBOX) was designated a National Teaching School in 2013. Using the Mulberry Bush values  our ambition is to work collaboratively with education, social care and health providers to develop outstanding and outcomes for vulnerable children across the country. This is achieved through the promotion of ongoing training and research and development opportunities for staff, support for schools in challenging circumstances, and contributing to the training of student teachers.

What we aim to do:

o

To offer a high quality behaviour support network for schools and other services working with vulnerable children and their families.
o To support an increased understanding of the needs of children made vulnerable by their Social, Emotional and Mental Health difficulties
o To maintain high levels of inclusion by increasing capacity to manage challenging behaviour through:
-Developing the understanding of behaviour as communication, and transferring this into practice
- Understanding the value of developing a culture of reflective practice
-Developing peer support
-Increasing confidence in strategies to work with challenging behaviour
o To continue to provide evidenced based practice.

Teaching School Alliance

As the lead school in the MBOX Teaching School alliance, as well as continuing to be a National Support School, we are one of a few focused on the needs of children experiencing social, emotional and mental health difficulties, which are often exhibited through behavioural difficulties.  Our alliance is built from a range of outstanding special schools from across the south, south east and south west of England.
