We are now an Ofsted rated ‘Good’ authority with outstanding features and this reflects the hard work and commitment of our staff. We realigned our social work services at the beginning of 2018 to ensure our teams were smaller and better able to support reflective practice. We want to share our new structure and our good practice and invite you to join us on our continuing journey – growing together.

We have social work vacancies at various levels within our Localities and LAC and Permanency services and are particularly interested to hear from experienced practitioners who are interested in taking the next step in their career.

Brent, situated in North West London is a great place to work. The borough is probably the most diverse in the UK in terms of the number of different communities who live here. With great transport links, the huge ongoing regeneration of Wembley Park and our exciting plans to host the 2020 London Borough of Culture, Brent is a borough on the up.

In Brent children are at the heart of everything we do. We listen and proactively respond to children’s voices and experiences and this is the core of our approach. We have worked with practitioners to develop our Practice Framework with room for your practice to grow using systemic approaches.  This includes a common language based on Signs of Safety which is threaded throughout all of our interventions. Everyone in the organisation is determined to improve outcomes for children and constantly reflect on the differences we are making in children’s lives. We empower our practitioners to lead and share good practice and see practice leadership at every level across all of our services.

Our benefits and support package to staff is extensive, comparing favourably with other London boroughs:

- Competitive starting salaries, a £1200 annual retention payment and, for hard to recruit to roles, a £5000 golden hello.
- Manageable caseloads across all teams.
- A practice framework that provides sturdy roots and areas for you to grow your practice.
- A training passport and a minimum of 10 days training per year. Our learning opportunities are designed to enhance direct social work practice through the Brent Practice Framework.
- A career progression policy that maps out how you will grow your career in Brent – from ASYE to Team Manager and beyond.
- A small team model, supported by social work practice consultants who ensure reflective practice is embedded.
- Probably the best supportive technology amongst London local authorities – through the use of iphones and ipads.
- A culture of flexible working that reduces barriers for effective working – supported by technology and other resources such as zipcars.
