Achieving for Children (AfC) children’s services are still one of the best in the country, says Ofsted, 2017.

Inspectors praised all service areas as ‘good’, commenting that services have further improved since the last inspection in 2012 when services were also judged as ‘good’.

The report published praised a number of areas, including:

  • Senior leaders ensure a relentless focus on the needs of children and young people.
  • Child-centred practice comes from the top of the organisation and extends throughout the workforce.
  • Social workers and family support workers recognise the significance and importance of diversity.
  • They are responsive to the ethnic and cultural background of children and their families.
  • Children’s cases are, easily and appropriately escalated. This ensures that children and young people get the right level of help and protection, suitable to their assessed needs.
  • The local authority is making steady progress in ensuring that every child who needs an education, health and care plan has one.

They particularly praised the decision from Richmond and Kingston Councils to establish, believing that the company has “added value to the delivery of services to children.”

As a social enterprise, AfC, are able to provide bespoke children’s social care and education support services to other local authorities, schools and partners in the education, health, social care and criminal justice sectors.
