Helping you to deliver high quality care - The Social Care Commitment


What is the Social Care Commitment?

It’s the sector’s promise to provide people who need care and support with high quality services. It’s made up of seven ‘I will’ statements with associated tasks that everyone who signs up to the commitment needs to do - for example, I will take account of potential employees values, attitudes and behaviours when recruiting new staff.

Employees sign up too with slightly different ‘I will’ statements and associated tasks - for example, I will always promote and uphold the privacy, dignity, rights, health and wellbeing of people who need care and support.


Why should I sign up?

It sets out clear goals and shared values for everyone
You can use statements and tasks as supporting evidence for Care Quality Commission (CQC) inspection
It gives a structure to inductions, appraisals and supervision
You can use it to create individual and organisational development plans
It helps to retain staff
You can display the Social Care Commitment logo to publically declare you are committed to delivering high quality care
Your organisation will be listed on the ‘who’s signed up?’ page of the Social Care Commitment website and the NHS Choices website (CQC registered organisations only)
It allows access to useful resources via your online account and a free Social Care Commitment pack will be posted to you once signed up


Who can sign up?

Anyone who works in adult social care, including volunteers, such as:

Care homes with or without nursing
Any adult residential care service
Domiciliary care services
Community care services
Any day or day care services
Housing providers who provide care and support.

How do I sign up?

The employer signs up first and then invites their employees to. Employees who don’t have an email address can be signed up by their employer using the employee assisted sign up tool.


  1. Go to
  2. Click sign up and fill in your details
  3. Once complete, you will receive a confirmation email (please check your junk folder in case it goes in there by mistake)
  4. Open the email and click on the link to activate your account
  5. Log into your account
  6. Choose at least one task from each of the seven statements and put in a date to say when you will have done it by
  7. Once you’ve done that, you are signed up to the Social Care Commitment.
