Croydon CYPL

Are you as ambitious as we are for our children?

Croydon has set its sights on becoming a top-performing authority in the outcomes for its vulnerable children. We are refocusing our efforts and reforming our delivery mechanisms to improve outcomes for children. We have made substantial capital investment to improve our services and infrastructure and have:

- A Social Work Academy providing targeted support, development and training opportunities.

- Pay levels which are highly competitive with other boroughs.

- Structured supervision for our Social Workers.

- Clear progression routes for Social Workers.

- Secured a building in central Croydon which will bring all children's services together and are consulting with our staff on the internal design of this building.

- Up-graded our IT, provided personal lap-tops and other equipment essential to social workers doing the job well.

- Set up a Children in Care Council

- Established a ‘Virtual School’ for children who are looked after.

These are just a few of the exciting developments at Croydon – why don’t you give us a call or arrange a visit to find out more!

About Croydon

Croydon is a large, diverse, London borough with a rich and varied history. It is a vibrant, modern and exciting place to live and work. More than a third of a million people live in Croydon, a fifth of which are from ethnic minorities – making the borough bigger and more diverse than many cities. It has excellent travel links. You can be in the centre of London within 15 minutes and the borough itself is well served by buses, trains and the highly acclaimed Tramlink. Housing is relatively affordable compared with other parts of the Capital and the borough boasts a choice of good schools which under the Transforming Croydon Schools programme have recently secured a further £350 million of investment.

Imagine Croydon – shaping our future together

Croydon has a history of being ambitious about its future. From clearing the Surrey Street slums in the 1890s to the building boom of the 1960s, Croydon has held visions of being ‘enterprising’, ‘innovative’ and ‘modern’. Recently we engaged in the largest consultation exercise ever undertaken in the history of the borough, asking more than 20,000 local people to Imagine Croydon’ in 2040. We now have an ambitious, compelling vision that paints a picture of the type of place we all want Croydon to be. Be part of that future!

Our Children

Croydon has close to 82,000 children and young people, being the largest child population of any London borough. Due to the location of UK Border Agency in Croydon, we also look after unaccompanied children seeking asylum.
