Halliwell Homes

Halliwell Homes is a specialist provider offering residential, foster and education placements for children and young people who have experienced significant trauma. Our aim is to address the young person’s needs by looking beyond their immediate behavior and facilitate psychology-based care that brings long-term development. To do this, we have developed an extensive range of experience and expertise creating a, holistic, clinically informed practice programme.

Based in the Greater Manchester and Cheshire regions, we accept placements from across the country for children and young people with complex behaviors and emotional difficulties up to the age of 18 on referral. Rated as outstanding by Ofsted for the quality of its childcare, our home Ivy Cottage often places young people from a secure placement or whose behavior is assessed as borderline secure before entering the programme. Our Willow House School is Ofsted registered for 15 students, offers a full curriculum and is an exam centre. Foster placements and ongoing placement support is available from our sister company Halliwell Fostering.

Our practice model is based upon the “Pillars of Parenting” Authentic Warmth Dimension of Professional childcare. We focus on the recovery of the young people placed in our care using the Parental Acceptance – Rejection Theory. To that end, all our practice staff are trained by our psychologist who, in turn, is supervised by Dr Sean Cameron who is based at the University College London (UCL). Every member of our Practice Team follows a Continuing Professional Development programme that responds to the needs of the young people in our care. With this higher level of knowledge and understanding, they are then able to respond to displayed behaviours with a greater level of insight and communicate within a psychological framework to support by the clinical team of therapists and psychologists as required.

Halliwell Homes are always looking for committed individuals with an interest in psychology to join our care team. If you are interested in working in our residential homes, school or joining our fostering team as a practitioner or foster carer please visit our website www.halliwellhomes.co.uk and make contact today.
