"I am feeling more enriched with knowledge and support"

After a successful event last week, the North West Social Work Show will be returning to Manchester in May 2018. We would like to thank every visitor, exhibitor, speaker and contributor who joined us in making the day a professional, sector-led event.

Celebrating our 10th year in the North West, here are some of the highlights from an event that brought together 1600 social work and care professionals from across the country to network and share knowledge:

•  Children's social workers could find out about the following issues affecting the sector:
- The NSPCC's new projects
- Unique CSE sessions from Pace and the Together Trust
- FGM, rape and sexual assault from Dr Catherine White OBE of the St Mary's Centre
- How councils in the North East are tackling neglect
- How Rochdale Borough Council is using targeted assessment and interventions to break the cycle of generational abuse
- A strengths-based framework to safeguarding children with the Signs of Safety approach implemented by Manchester City Council.

•  People who work with adults could hear about the latest developments from BASW, as well as the three conversations approach being implemented by Trafford Council.

•  There was also the launch of the Kirwin Maclean CPD Journal, the HCPC answering your CPD questions, and Dr Neil Thompson was on-hand to discuss what it means to be a professional in social work.

•  41 organisations were able to recruit qualified social work and care professionals, showcase new projects and offer training in the exhibition.

The Social Work Show will be returning to Manchester for its 11th year in 2018. To be a part of the event you can register for your free ticket to receive updates with new speakers and exhibitors at the event, or contact the COMPASS team on 01892 784804 to reserve your stand.
